The Fellowship Program is a state-of-the-art, advanced clinical training program that focuses on the theory and practice of psychosocial rehabilitation. Individualized, mentored clinical training is combined with a curriculum that emphasizes a comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation approach to service delivery, education, and implementing change in mental health care settings.  Fellows will work with Veterans diagnosed with serious mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and major depression and receive training in delivering a range of evidence-based services.  Veterans served, may also have co-occurring diagnoses, such as PTSD and substance use disorders. The purpose of the Interprofessional Fellowship Program is to develop future mental health leaders with vision, knowledge, and commitment to transforming mental health care systems in the 21st century by emphasizing functional capability, rehabilitation, and recovery. The Fellowship Program is offered at nine VA sites (see below).

The Fellowship Year runs from September 2022 – August 2023.  It is a one-year, full-time onsite post graduate VA trainee position at the Veterans Affairs Medical Centers that are indicated below, with salary commensurate to VA trainee status. VA employees would need to relocate and leave current VA position.  Fellows must be graduates of academic programs that are accredited by the nationally recognized accrediting bodies for the profession. Applications are invited from graduates of master’s or doctoral programs in occupational therapy, graduates of master's or doctoral programs in social work, doctoral programs in clinical or counseling psychology, psychiatry residency programs, master's or doctoral programs in mental health nursing, masters of divinity programs with 4 units of accredited clinical pastoral education, masters programs in marriage and family therapy, masters programs in vocational rehabilitation and masters programs in clinical mental health counseling or clinical rehabilitation counseling who are licensed or eligible for licensure. Stipends are competitive and are based on location and discipline. Full time fellows are eligible for health and life insurance benefits. All fellows earn annual and sick leave and are entitled to all Federal holidays.

Applications may be accepted and reviewed at each site until all positions are filled.  However, initial application deadlines are in effect, commencing in January 2022. Application deadlines vary by site and discipline, please contact each site to confirm deadlines.   Final decisions about applications to be accepted and application requirements will differ across sites, so please contact the Fellowship Director at each site of interest.  PLEASE NOTE: While some of the webpages posted below are psychology training pages, this program, included on those pages, is indeed interdisciplinary, welcoming applications from the disciplines noted above.  Please contact Program Directors for more information about application for non-psychology fellowship positions if not provided on webpages.  For general information and available brochures and program descriptions about the fellowship sites see:
