Description
The Website Content Strategist is responsible for the strategy, structure, and ongoing optimization of VisitGalveston.com. This role ensures the website delivers accurate, engaging, and discoverable content that promotes Galveston as a premier leisure and meetings destination. Responsibilities include CMS and CRM governance, content strategy and creation, SEO and AI-driven search optimization (GEO), user experience improvements, analytics, and collaboration with internal teams and tourism partners.
This role also provides limited support for GalvestonParkBoard.org, assisting primarily with website layout, imagery, and user experience, while Park Board staff maintain departmental content, meeting materials, and operational updates.
This position serves as the primary owner of VisitGalveston.com and is responsible for maintaining content quality, usability, brand consistency, and technical accuracy across the site.
Requirements
Minimal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field, or the equivalent of five years of relevant experience in destination marketing, hospitality, or digital content strategy
- Demonstrated experience managing and optimizing a website using CMS and CRM platforms
- Strong writing, editing, and content strategy skills
- Working knowledge of SEO best practices and content optimization for traditional and AI-driven search environments (GEO)
- Experience working with basic HTML formatting for web content updates and minor troubleshooting
- Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and quality across digital content
- Ability to manage time-sensitive updates in a fast-paced environment where information changes quickly
- Familiarity with website analytics tools such as Google Analytics and the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, sales, and partner-facing teams
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with internal teams and external partners
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively identify and implement improvements
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on partner needs and office demands
- Must hold a current and valid Class C Driver’s License
Essential Job Tasks:
- Own and oversee VisitGalveston.com, including CMS and CRM platforms, ensuring content accuracy, usability, technical integrity, and timely updates that position the site as the most reliable source of destination information.
- Develop and implement website content strategy aligned with organizational goals, brand standards, and SEO/GEO best practices.
- Create, edit, and maintain website content including pages, blogs, events, special offers, and partner listings.
- Maintain strong brand standards across all website content and digital touchpoints.
- Establish and maintain website content architecture, navigation, and taxonomy to support optimal user experience.
- Maintain ownership of website accessibility compliance, ensuring VisitGalveston.com adheres to applicable ADA standards.
- Prepare and optimize imagery for web and mobile use, including resizing, cropping, and basic photo editing to ensure visual consistency and optimal site performance.
- Monitor website performance and user behavior, making data-informed recommendations to improve engagement and discoverability.
- Optimize website content for search visibility across traditional search engines and AI-driven discovery platforms.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all website platforms and vendors, including Tempest, iDSS, web developers, and digital service providers.
- Oversee third-party website integrations and plugins (e.g., 360 Tours, UGC/SnapSea, MindTrip), ensuring functionality, performance, accessibility compliance, and alignment with brand and user experience standards.
- Maintain and update CRM content including partner profiles, event listings, photos, copywriting, and approvals.
- Provide technical support and training to tourism partners related to CRM usage and website content updates.
- Collaborate with tourism partners to ensure timely and accurate representation of businesses, products, and events on VisitGalveston.com.
- Manage and maintain key website sections and microsites, including Beach Patrol and Meetings & Groups pages, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency with Visit Galveston messaging and public safety information.
- Lead website content updates during crisis or emergency situations, including severe weather events, closures, and safety communications.
- Provide limited website support for GalvestonParkBoard.org, focusing on layout, imagery, and user experience enhancements, while coordinating with Park Board staff who manage departmental content, bids, agendas, and meeting materials.
- Coordinate with marketing, brand, sales, and business development teams to support campaigns, sponsored content, and partner initiatives through the website.
- Manage and update digital content on select third-party platforms as it relates to website visibility and partner accuracy.
- Prepare and present regular performance reports on website KPIs, SEO metrics, and content effectiveness.
- Maintain the media center, including photo and video assets and relevant news content.
- Attend local and industry events to build relationships with tourism partners and stay informed on destination marketing trends.
- Provide basic technical troubleshooting support for minor website-related issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to stand or sit at a desk and operate office equipment a minimum of 8 hours per day. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, as well as balance.
- Must be able to occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures.
- Must be able to walk or stand for long periods and as required for events.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend both written and oral communications, as well as respond in written and oral communication.
- Responsible for following all public health safety measures designed for their personal safety and the safety of coworkers and guests
